1440 Broadway

Home to WOR radio for almost 80 years, after a 2001 renovation Monday Properties' 1440 Broadway is one of the Garment District's most desirable commercial office towers.

Originally designed by Starrett & Van Vleck  in 1924, 1440 Broadway still stands today as one of the Garment District’s most striking office towers. Standing conveniently between 40th and 41st Streets, with Times Square to the north and Penn Station to the south, the 25-story, 743,000-square-foot office building is owned by Monday Properties and features floor plates ranging from 21,500 to 34,000 square feet and subway access directly adjacent to the tower. Once known as the WOR Building, the tower was rebranded in 2005 after its longtime tenant of 80 years, the WOR (AM) radio station, relocated its studios to 111 Broadway in lower Manhattan.

In 2001, 1440 Broadway received a $14 million facelift designed by Moed de Armas & Shannon. The project installed video screens in the lobby, new steel and glass elevator cabs with red marble cores, and an upgraded building security system. The tower’s Broadway entrance was also reinvigorated with glass storefronts and limestone piers with aluminum canopies and the lobby’s ceiling was raised to a soaring 18 feet, with new white marble floors and a 15-foot piece of Mariko Mori art.

After earning the city’s first LEED Gold rating for a pre-war office tower at 230 Park Avenue for the Helmsley Building, Monday Properties has also earned Gold certification for 1440 Broadway under the LEED for Existing Buildings rating system. Major corporate tenants at 1440 Broadway include Macy’s.
